Fund History

The Sled Dog Fund, Inc. was founded in 2007 by Blake Matray and his wife Erin. The non-profit organization grew out of an idea to use their team of Siberian Huskies to not only race but to help disabled children as well. Blake had donated money over the years to Special Olympics Alaska and had always wanted to do more. The idea of using the sled dogs as a conduit for fund raising ultimately led to the creation of The Sled Dog Fund, Inc. With the help of their neighbors, Walter and Deborah Lanigan, Blake and Erin were able to incorporate the Sled Dog Fund in the state of Alaska.

The Sled Dog Fund, Inc. is a licensed 501(c)3 non-profit corporation governed by a board of directors and administered by four corporate officers. Funding raised by The Sled Dog Fund, Inc. directly supports children with disabilities and their families, clinical research on developmental disabilities, hospital programs, parental education programs and sponsors individual disabled children who wish to compete in adventure races of any kind.
